This site is a clearinghouse for newspaper accounts and other research involving the innovation of umpire hand signals in baseball.  Please feel free to share them and use them in your own research.

All articles are keyword search-able and organized by publishing date and by categories.  You can search using the tools in the right-hand column of the site.

Much of the content on this site was uncovered while making the film Signs of the Time.  Although some of the information was featured in the film, this site contains additional content that was discovered during the researching of the project.

We hope that this collection of materials will assist others in doing additional research on the topic of hand signal origins. Many on-line research resources are provided under the Research Links tab with many links to baseball information and historical newspaper sites. If you have content not available on this site or have written any sort of research article on the topic, we would love to add it.
